June 14, 2011 Seneca Falls, NY

June 14, 2011
In 1848, a hundred forward-thinking feminists and abolitionits, both men and women, black and white, gathered in the Presbyterian Church in Seneca Falls, in upstate New York, and declared that all Men and Women are created equal.  Sadly, this is still a radical notion.

"The Equal Rights Amendment was written in suffragist Alice Paul, and presented in the Presbyterian Church in Seneca Falls, NY in 1923.  The ERA was introduced into every session of Congress from 1923 until 1972, when it was passed and sent to the states for ratification.  By the deadline in 1982, the ERA had only been ratified by 35 states, just short of the 38 needed to pass.  The ERA has been introduced into every session of congress since then, with no time limit on ratification." (from the postcard I bought).

It's obscene that our country refuses to ratify into our constitution the notion that women should be equal to men under the law. Obscene and archaic.
