South Campus

"South Campus" is the name I'm using to refer to a redeveloping portion of land, South of the Campus of the Catholic University of America, and adjacent to the beautiful National Basilica.

Being undertaken in a multi-faceted way, with currently three different major developers are working concurrently to bring exciting residential and commercial development to the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C.

Developer EYA is creating a beautiful 200 townhouse community on several acres on the edge of the St. Paul's College, at 7th and Jackson, Irving and Hamlin Streets, in northeast Washington, D.C. Chancellor's Row is a new-construction development that aims for sustainable, lower-impact infill residential housing.

Next, are the Artspace Artists Lofts.  At 8th and Hamlin Streets, NE, this 42-unit new construction will offer affordable artist live/work spaces, in conjunction with the long-established Dance Place dance school and studio.

Last, but certainly not least is Jim Abdo's very promising multi-phase South Campus development, which he hopes will bring lots of additional retail, residential units both for sale, and for rent, in a beautiful and adorable neighborhood just off the Redline Metro, where there is so much room to grow.

With ground-level retail in two areas, a townhouse community, and vertical rental and sale apartments, the five stages are super-exciting.

And the best part of all, is that I just bought a little slice of the American pie; a 500-square foot condo just one block below that big red area on that map.  Where all of this is happening. And I get to take pictures of it every day!

Some of the work is already happening; ugly dorms have been demolished, Artspace is evaluating aplications, and the houses at Chancellor's row are selling like hotcakes with one new finished home move-in ready every thirty days for the next few years.
