May 3, 2011 - Yoga Sutras

May 3, 2011 Yogi Tea "Fortune"
I've been drinking a lot of tea lately, especially Yogi Tea.  Not just because I'm into yoga; I'm also a sucker for packaging design (theirs is excellent) and tasty tea.  Their teas have little sutras on the tea bag.  Mostly they say nice, affirming things like "there is beauty in your presence," (actual quote).

But on Tuesday, my fortune was "Never utter a wrong word, think a wrong though, or wish a wrong wish." And it kind of floored me. I've certainly uttered lots of wrong words and had lots of wrong thoughts about, and maybe just a few wrong wishes towards the "President," of my condo board. I probably will continue to. But I can, and intend to focus my energy elsewhere. I'm still really hurt, and feel really violated and bullied by him. But I need to move beyond it. I'm better than I was a week ago, which is better than I was 10 days ago. Progress.

So I felt a little chastised by this one, but in a good way.

And then I went ahead and ordered the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (translation by Sri Swami Satchidananda). It's a required book for yoga teacher training, and it's probably time I start into the yoga bible.  My teacher Yael also recommends reading the sutras while doing Yin Yoga (long-held poses, aka yoga torture), so maybe if I have the Sutras, I'll be more likely to do Yin at home.
