I spent about two hours weeding the bed for the Victory Garden--Virginia Creeper has a strong foothold on my parents' garden, but I dug up to 18" deep in some places to get to the base of the roots. There's also lots of dead roots from a now-felled Maple tree that I dug up and cut out.
At this point, I don't think the contents of the Victory Garden would actually feed me for the end times, but it certainly will help make whatever food I have left taste better. Plus, there's a major satisfaction in spending a whole afternoon gardening with Mom for mother's day, and getting dirty and sweaty.
